Science of Sound: 4. Measuring Frequency

Sound frequency is a measure of how quickly the pressure changes, and is measured in Hertz (Hz). Objects that vibrate faster produce higher frequency sounds, and objects that vibrate slower produce lower frequency sounds.

For each vibration cycle, the tuning fork tines move away from and then back to the same position. For instance: the tines move inward then reverse direction and move outward returning to their original position, and then this pattern repeats.
