When Should We Deliver the Program?

Start early. Health behaviors are learned at critical ages, and health communication science tells us to start early and that 9–11-year-olds are especially receptive to teacher and parent suggestions. Once kids are in junior-high (middle school), peers may become the dominant role models in their lives. They are less likely to be influenced by important adults and more open to teenage attitudes and behaviors. Kids younger than 9 years may lack the cognitive ability to fully understand the information or activities.

The Dangerous Decibels program can be easily adapted to other grades and audiences, including adults/parents. Please contact us if you need more information about adaptations for specific audiences.

Each of you are becoming part of the network of Dangerous Decibels educators and will be able to make a difference in your own schools and communities.
