Using earplugs or earmuffs if you cannot turn down the volume or walk away from the sound is also a good strategy to protect your hearing for life.
Young children will often cover their ears when they hear louds sounds. Parents should pay attention to their child’s behavior in order to recognize when hearing protection may be needed. Kids seem to figure out their own ways to protect their ears when things become uncomfortably loud for them.Even using fingers in your ears works very well if you can make a good seal between your finger and your ear canal. The problem is, if you plug both your ears, then you can’t eat your ice cream cone at the same time!Placing your palms over your ears can also work if they make a good seal with your ear/head.
There are many different types of hearing protection, each designed for a particular use and will fit each ear uniquely.
