The Science of Hearing: 2. How Do Our Ears Break?
Try it Out!
These recordings were made from the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Hearing Loss Simulator.
Each of the 15 second sound files simulates a different degree of noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL). Play the “normal hearing” audio file first and set your computer speakers to a comfortable listening level. Then, listen to the other sound files without adjusting your computer volume. Try going back and forth to listen between normal hearing and the simulated hearing loss sounds.
You can hear how the music changes and doesn’t sound as good with a hearing loss.
