2Measuring Noise Exposure as Sound

Tuning fork iconThe LEVEL of the sound and the TIME that you spend listening to that sound determines whether a sound is SAFE or DANGEROUS over time.
Noise Dosimeters are useful in measuring noise exposures. Think of them as an expensive sound level meter with an internal clock that adds up all the dangerous sounds you are exposed to while wearing the device. It is a little box with a microphone that you wear on your body, usually clipped on a shoulder.
Noise dosimeter
The noise dosimeter will report the average number of decibels you were exposed to and the “dose” of noise that occurred. Anything over a 100% dose indicates that a person’s exposure to high-level sound that day was too much.
