Materials

  • Pipe Cleaners
Color: Usually white is the best choice since it will resemble the hair bundle in the photographs more closely. Once color is introduced, the students become distracted with trading colors, wanting their favorite color etc.
Length: In most cases we use the full 12-inch pipe cleaner length, however a shorter 6-inch length works just as well if you want to cut the pipe-cleaners in half and increase the number that you have available to teach with.
Thickness: We recommend the standard 6 mm size
Name: When shopping for replacement pipe cleaners, they are typically sold as “Chenille Stems” in craft stores. Actual pipe cleaners sold in tobacco supply stores are too thick and stiff to work well.
  • Images
The signs are available for download under RESOURCES if your images become damaged and need replacement. Laminating the images also helps them last longer.
