Note: Individuals who have surgically altered ears, implanted medical devices in their ears or any medical conditions that contra-indicate the use of earplugs should refrain from this demonstration and you might possibly substitute by letting them try wearing the earmuffs. However, the earmuffs would have to be returned to the instructor afterwards.
Reuse and Cleaning Tips:
Earplugs should not be shared with others; however reusable types can be washed in mild soap and lukewarm water, dried and then reused by the same person. Earmuffs can be shared if cleaned in between users. Wipe the outside with mild soap and lukewarm water and let air dry or use disinfectant wipes. Do not immerse in water.
Foam earplugs are specifically discouraged for this age group since this type of earplug has proven to be more difficult for 7–11-year-olds to insert properly. There may be other pre-formed styles of earplugs that would work equally as well, we just haven’t tested them all. If you have questions about other types of earplugs you want to use during the classroom program, please inquire as we would be happy to help you determine if they might be appropriate to use in this age group.
